Chris Anderson has set the bar high for his Belmont Abbey baseball team, and it appears major league scouts have taken notice.

The latest indication of this came Wednesday, when senior second baseman Matt McGarry was selected in the 34th round by the New York Yankees.

He is the sixth Crusader drafted since 2008, joining the likes of Alex Castellanos, Tyler Powell, Emilio Pagan, Cody Stull and Anthony Dimino.

McGarry was part of a decorated senior class that won 141 games over the past four years, along with making two trips to NCAA Southeast Regional tournament.

This past season, the Belmont Abbey second baseman batted .349 with four home runs and 25 RBIs. He also scored 64 runs and stole 23 bases. For his work, the native of San Diego, California, earned All-Southeast Region honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
