Belmont Abbey senior outside hitter Hannah Schellenberg has been selected as the Sports Imports/American Volleyball Coaches Association National Player of the Week for NCAA Division II.
The 5’11 outside hitter from Jacksonville, Florida is the first player in school history to earn the award.
Earlier in the day, she was selected as the Conference Carolinas Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks.
Schellenberg led the Crusaders to a 3-1 week as she posted three double doubles and narrowly missed a fourth.
In the four matches this past week, she slammed down 88 kills, hit .334, recorded 48 digs, seven service aces and handed out three assists.
In the 3-2 win over King, she hit .339 with 27 kills, 17 digs and two service aces. Three nights later, she led the Crusaders to a 3-1 win at Emmanuel with 20 kills, 11 digs, two service aces and one assist.
In two non-conference matches on Saturday, she led the way with 41 kills and 20 digs, posting 24 kills and nine digs in the 3-2 triumph over Montevallo and closed the week with 17 kills and 11 digs in a 3-0 loss at GRU Augusta.
For the year, Schellenberg has 230 kills and 168 digs. She is ranked second nationally in kills and total attacks (614) and is fifth in kills per set (4.69) and tenth in points per set (5.0).
Earlier this season, she recorded her 1,000th career dig, becoming the first player in school history to record 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs.
