Dr. Joseph Wysocki Wins 2016-2017 Adrian Award for Teaching Excellence
Dr. David Williams and Belmont Abbey College would like to congratulate Dr. Joseph Wysocki, the winner of the 2016-2017 Adrian Award for Teaching Excellence. Dr. Wysocki is an Associate Professor of Government and Political Philosophy and Director of the St. Thomas More Scholarship Program. A graduate of Belmont Abbey’s Honors Institute (‘04), Dr. Wysocki pursued graduate studies at Baylor University, where he completed a master’s degree in political science and a doctorate in political philosophy, with a dissertation titled “Rhetorical Practice in Congress: A New Way to Understand Institutional Decline.” After graduate school, Dr. Wysocki returned to the Abbey to teach government and political philosophy.
Abbey Ties for Third in International Public Debate Association’s National Championship
The Belmont Abbey debaters returned to campus yesterday after competing in over 60 collective rounds at the International Public Debate Association’s National Championship this weekend. The competition involved both team and individual IPDA. In team debate, Mary Rose Stepnowski and Logan Torve advanced to elimination rounds after winning three of four preliminary rounds. They won on 2-1 decisions in both octofinals and quarterfinals, defeating teams from Arkansas State University and Drury University respectively. Mary Rose and Logan dropped in semifinals against Louisiana State University- Shreveport, placing them at a tie for third overall in the team division of the IPDA National Championship.

Founders Day: 141 years
It was 141 years ago that Fr. Herman Wolfe OSB arrived, with two students, to take possession of the former Caldwell plantation. Classes began at once. Not too many years later, Abbot Leo Haid would hope that “the work and prayers here shall spread God’s blessing over this beautiful country in years to come, when perhaps few of you who are listening to me now shall be among the living.”
Today none of those who listened are alive, and with them rest many more who built up the College and ensured that it stands today. But from Fr. Herman’s day to this day, without a break, all those works and prayers have depended on the support and sponsorship offered by the monastic community. Without Belmont Abbey, there could be no Belmont Abbey College.
So on this Founder’s Day, we offer a prayer of gratitude for those who have gone before us. And want to all express our thanks to Abbot Placid and the whole monastic community for all that they do and have done in support of the College.

Crusaders Dedicate New Scoreboard
BELMONT, N.C. – On Sunday afternoon, another enhancement was dedicated at Abbey Yard. The Belmont Abbey baseball team dedicated its new scoreboard before its doubleheader against Lander.
The new scoreboard was made possible by a group of sponsors and anonymous donors.
Beinlich, Busby and Krause Lead Crusaders in Conference Final
ELON, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey baseball team fought into the bottom of the ninth against top-seeded Mount Olive, but were unable to come away with the tournament victory as the Trojans produced two runs in the final frame, including the walk-off walk, for a 5-4 victory.
Belmont Abbey collected nine hits on the contest, with Colin Rosenbaum, Nick Nunziato and Luke Cureton all having multi-hit performances.
Adam Wiedemann and Coach Barrett Receive Major Conference Carolinas Awards
HIGH POINT, N.C. – Belmont Abbey junior attack Adam Wiedemann has been named the 2017 Conference Carolinas Co-Offensive Player of the Year, the conference has announced. Additionally, Head Coach Chris Barrett received the 2017 Coach of the Year award.
Abbey Men’s Tennis Finishes Season as Conference Runners-Up
SUMTER S.C. – The Belmont Abbey men’s tennis team completed its season today with a 5-0 loss to Barton in the Conference Carolinas Championship. The Crusaders finish the year 21-13 as the conference runners-up. Barton is 14-8.
