Rooted in the Benedictine charism of hospitality, Belmont Abbey College is honored to welcome college-aged pregnant women through a special organization called MiraVia.
The Benedictine monks donated the land for a 10,000-square-foot facility that provides housing, babysitting, life-skill classes and more for young mothers. These women have the opportunity to stay at MiraVia until their child is 2 years old, receiving the support they need as they transition into parenthood.
One MiraVia resident shares her experience: “On the day I had to leave my friend’s house and had nowhere to go except back to the homeless shelter with my 2-year-old and the baby I carried, God answered my prayers and MiraVia called me. Not only did I have a safe and loving home for myself and my son, but I also had the safe delivery of my beautiful daughter. For this, I will always be thankful to God.”
MiraVia residents can also receive a Belmont Abbey College education free of charge! This is the Abbey’s way of living out our belief that all life is valuable: the lives of preborn babies and the lives of their parents.
Another MiraVia alumna has this to say: “I was a resident for 13 months…. I completed my bachelor’s degree…. I would not be the parent and woman I am today without MiraVia.”
Our support of an organization like MiraVia is part of what makes Belmont Abbey College unique. Our mission is to educate students and encourage them to be a blessing to themselves and others. During their college years, students are invited to participate in service projects and mission trips and learn to serve others. It is our hope that students grow in virtue here on campus and, when they graduate, give back to their communities in an impactful way.
