The Healthcare Department prepares and educates students to function as health care professionals by integrating the discipline of nursing with foundational knowledge from the liberal arts and sciences.

The Abbey Difference:

The Health Information Management and Analytics (HIMA) program helps students develop the foundational knowledge and skills needed to transform, interpret, and administer healthcare data. It does so by grounding their course of study in the Catholic, Benedictine tradition and its moral framework so that they may develop a way to deliver healthcare that cherishes and builds the whole person. The HIMA program communicates to students the methods and skills of the discipline of health information management and analytics, while also preparing its graduates for service and ethical leadership in the healthcare community inspired and informed by the Benedictine Hallmarks, Ex Corde Ecclesiae, and the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services.

Program Admission Requirements:

  • Must submit application to program with three relevant academic references
  • Must complete MA 151 OR MA 145, BU 265, HC 200 with a grade of C or higher, with no more than two attempts for each class.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 for any prior collegiate level course work.
  • Criminal Background check, drug screen, immunizations up to date via Student Liaison/Compliance Specialist (student cost). Software such as Castlebranch required for exclusion monitoring per national requirements for Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS).
  • Technical standards for admission (visual and hearing requirements)

  • Completion of RHIA exam review course.
