Free Summer Class for New Fall ’21 Students

Belmont Abbey College is helping incoming first-year students get ready for college life with a free course to jump start their career. When new students submit their enrollment deposit by March 1, 2021, they’ll automatically qualify for a free summer course preceding their first fall semester. With expanded online and in-person hybrid classes, both local and out-of-state students can take advantage of the new program and start early on their college career.

“With so much in flux these days we thought offering our new incoming first-year students an easy first step would give them a smooth transition to college life” said Dr. Travis Feezell, Provost of Belmont Abbey College. “We also wanted to reward those who are ready to make the commitment, and are ready to start their Abbey career.”

Eligible courses have been selected from the Core Curriculum and will include Western Civilization I, Rhetoric and Writing, Introduction to Psychology, The American Constitution, and Introduction to Scripture. By taking a summer course before the beginning of the Fall semester, new incoming students will enter their freshman year at least three credits ahead – allowing more flexibility in future terms and potentially shortening the timeline to graduation for some students.

Belmont Abbey College had a successful Fall 2020 semester despite the challenges of a global pandemic. The college reconfigured classrooms to increase physical distance, encouraged masking in common areas, reduced in-person events, held alternative distanced events, opened all its residence halls, provided COVID-19 testing to students when needed, and had numerous active athletic programs. The Abbey anticipates another successful in-person spring semester as it takes early initiatives, including requiring a negative test prior to arrival, eliminating spring break, and starting the semester one week later.

The free Jump Start Summer Class offer is the first of its kind for Belmont Abbey College. Students must apply, be accepted, and then deposit by March 1, 2021 to be eligible.
