Emma Camp ’09 National Geographic Explorer
Emma Camp, 2009 Belmont Abbey College graduate, always had a love for nature. During her time at the Abbey, she even pursued Environmental Science courses as Independent Studies while she completed her Biology degree.
Emma now works as a marine biologist and is making huge strides in saving devastated coral reefs from further decay and even rejuvenating portions of the reefs. And her efforts and drive have not gone unnoticed. Emma is recognized as a National Geographic Explorer and is a Rolex Awards Associate Laureate. Rolex Awards support individuals with innovative projects that improve life on the planet, expand knowledge, propose solutions to major challenges, or preserve our natural and cultural heritage for future generations. Emma is one of only 150 laureates that have been awarded since the program’s inception in 1976.
Emma’s work isn’t only in the oceans and the labs. Emma is working on land to see environmental changes to positively affect the environment and, specifically, reefs. She’s a United Nations Young Leader for the Sustainable Development Goals, and will be addressing the upcoming UN General Assembly later this year.
