Congratulations to the Belmont Abbey College Phi Beta Lambda team winning several state championships in Business-Economic analysis on Sa
turday night. Abbey chapter president, Marilyn Malphrus, directed eleven Abbey teammates into various written and oral competitions over three days in Charlotte from April 7- 9 (2016). The event occurred at the 62nd Annual State Leadership Conference of the inter-collegiate, Future Business Leaders of America, the largest business student development organization in the nation.
Katie McFadden won the statewide competition in Accounting from among 281 state-level competitors; Yifei Wang earned first in International Business and also in Microeconomics.
Since the top three finishers in each event qualify for Nationals, eight Abbey students qualified to advance to the National contest against 2,000 college students from around the nation in Atlanta from June 24-27. The Abbey team brought home 3 First Place, 4 Second Place, 2 Third Place, and one Fourth.
Chapter advisor and Abbey Associate Professor, Dr. Brad Frazier, was elated. “I went into this event without any specific expectations. I am so proud of their efforts and look forward to watching them perform on the National stage in June.” Abbey students finished in the top four in Management Concepts, Macroeconomics, Personal Finance, Contemporary Sports Issues, Financial Concepts, Microeconomics, Business Communications, and Economic Analysis and Decision Making. Dr. Frazier added that, “Abbey students were motivated, they were prepared, and they had a solid base from their total Abbey education.”
