“Belmont Abbey definitely is a special place, almost immediately you begin to develop a relationship with those around you. From freshman year to senior year and even beyond, you maintain those relationships and it really creates an environment you want to be a part of. The small school atmosphere is what I will always remember about Belmont Abbey when I graduate, you become familiar with so many faces and that’s what has made me appreciate everything more. I know that my teammates will be close friends for years to come.”

This Past Week At The Abbey

Hardly had our students returned from Spring Break, before the coveted O’Connell Parking Lot spots vacated once more for Easter Break. Yet, the past couple weeks have been packed full, because after all, Belmont Abbey is the place where things happen.

Meanwhile… The Women’s Soccer team fundraised  and saved up to take a trip over Spring Break to Italy to play a match against an Italian soccer team (which they won 6-0!).  Here’s an awesome article about our very own Soccer Senior, Meghan Philp, about her trip playing soccer in Italy and her plans to play pro soccer upon graduation! We’re so happy for you Meghan! #GoAbbey

passion-3

Fourteen students participated in a student led live stations of the cross in preparation for Holy Week and before we knew it–it was Easter Break. The monks hosted their annual retreat for men and we received three students into Catholic Church at the Easter vigil!

seminary

We’re so happy to announce St. Joseph’s Seminary–a minor Seminary that will take place here at the Abbey. Here’s a few of the young men who have applied to St. Joseph College Seminary, meeting up with Fr. Kauth and Fr. Barone for dinner at the Abbey.

holy-door

Bishop Jugis designated the basilica as a Holy Year of Mercy pilgrimage site, with a holy door, for the Bishop’s Youth Pilgrimage. There was a fish fry following daily mass to make it easier for staff, faculty, alumni, and their families to attend. Afterwards Abbot Placid and the monks led the procession through the Holy Door.

You know you’re at a Catholic school when you see the altar getting carried across campus for an event– in this case the Bishops Lenten Youth Pilgrimage.
