Septima Clark Signature

In honor of Black History Month, Professor Emeritus Dr. Frank Murray donated this signature of Septima Clark, to Belmont Abbey College Library. Clark was called “The Mother of the Civil Rights Movement” by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and was a champion for education and social justice throughout her life. Clark was awarded an honorary Doctorate from Belmont Abbey College in 1983. The image here shows a photograph of Dr. Murray and Septima Clark at commencement in 1983, the text from the presentation of her honorary degree from Belmont Abbey College, and Clark’s signature at the bottom.
